Only plastics #1 and #2 are recycled in Lawrence County!

To find out what type of plastic you have, look for the tiny triangle embossed on the bottom of the plastic item.
If there is a 1 or 2 within the triangle, we will accept it!

#1 Plastics Include:

Soft drink and water bottles
Mouthwash bottles
Salad dressing and vegetable oil containers

#2 Plastics Include:

Milk jugs, juice bottles
Bleach, detergent and household cleaner bottles
Shampoo bottles

Why don’t we accept other types of plastic?

Plastics #1-#7 are recyclable. Currently, most of the industries that use recycled plastic require #1 and #2 plastics to make their products. Unfortunately, that means there is only a small “end market” for the higher numbered plastics. The LCSWMD was hoping to accept more plastics, but our plastic purchaser Rumpke Inc. sustained damage to its plastic sorting facility. This made the acceptance of plastics #3-#7 even more problematic! We at LCSWD are keeping a watch on the recycled plastics market, and we are looking forward to keeping more plastics out of the landfill.
